Lead Electrical Design Engineer – Energy Sector ProjectsThis is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lead Design Engineer to take a senior role across one or more projects within the Energy sector. The successful candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary team delivering high-quality engineering solutions across various project stages, including concept design, FEED, and EPCm delivery.Projects span a wide range of technologies and industries—from brownfield Oil and Gas infrastructure through to innovative Hydrogen production and storage facilities. There is also the potential to contribute to projects in other sectors such as Nuclear, Defence, and Transport.ResponsibilitiesAs a client-facing Principal Engineer, duties will include: * Providing electrical discipline technical leadership on live projects and tenders, including preparation, checking, and approval of key engineering documentation. * Managing discipline-specific resources, assigning tasks, and ensuring on-time delivery in line with project schedules. * Mentoring and supporting the development of junior and graduate engineers. * Ensuring the production of high-quality deliverables in accordance with budgets, timescales, and client requirements. * Adhering to relevant UK and international standards, codes of practice, legislation, and client-specific procedures. * Preparing equipment/material specifications and requisitions for items such as HV/LV switchboards, transformers, motors, UPS systems, earthing systems, lighting, and trace-heating. * Drafting installation scopes of work and reviewing supplier quotations and technical submissions.Typical technical outputs may include: * Protection grading studies and earthing calculations * Power system analysis including fault level calculations and load flow studies * Sizing of HV and LV cables and electrical equipment * Development of datasheets and technical specifications * Support during commissioning phases * Engagement with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs)Requirements * Degree qualified in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering (relevant apprenticeships may be considered) * Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or working towards it * In-depth understanding of design and installation practices across various industrial sectors * Minimum 15 years’ engineering experience, ideally within Oil & Gas, Nuclear, or Water industries * Strong knowledge of UK regulations and engineering standards * Experience with electrical systems in process environments, including hazardous area installationsThis role suits individuals who are passionate about engineering delivery, committed to mentoring others, and capable of contributing to a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
