Job description
Overview

Access Talent Group are currently recruiting for a Civil Engineering SME to lead the delivery of Infrastructure or non-infrastructure water sector projects across the UK.

We are looking for a Lead Design EICA Engineer to design, specify and support electrical, instrumentation, control and automation systems for water / wastewater / utilities / infrastructure projects. Working across project stages — from early design through to commissioning, handover and maintenance — ensuring safe, compliant, efficient operation of assets.

Responsibilities
  • Develop electrical system designs: single-line diagrams, distribution layouts, load schedules, protection/coordination studies, earthing/grounding, cable sizing.
  • Specify electrical equipment: switchgear, transformers, LV/MV panels, motor control centres (MCC), control panels, distribution boards, etc.
  • Design control & instrumentation interfaces: PLCs, SCADA/automation systems, field instrumentation, telemetry, power supplies.
  • Carry out electrical load calculations, fault-level and short-circuit analysis, coordination studies, harmonic/power-quality studies (if required).
  • Prepare technical specifications, procurement documentation, vendor evaluations and scopes-of-work for subcontractors.
  • Support site-based activities: site surveys, construction supervision, installation, commissioning and handover; troubleshoot and resolve electrical/control system issues during build and operation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, civil, process, control & instrumentation, contractors, external stakeholders) to ensure integrated design and delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations and safety legislation (e.g. BS/IEC standards, low-/medium-voltage regulations, utility interfacing requirements, UK regulatory compliance).
  • Contribute to cost estimation, risk assessment, change control and document management through project lifecycle.
About you
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Electrical / Electronic / Control / Instrumentation Engineering (or related discipline).
  • Ideally Chartered (or working towards) status with a recognised UK professional body (e.g. IET) — but Nuvion may consider experienced engineers working toward chartership.
  • Proven experience in electrical design, power distribution, protection, control & instrumentation — ideally within infrastructure, utilities, water, wastewater or industrial sectors.
  • Good knowledge of LV/MV electrical systems and utility interface requirements.
  • Experience using design / analysis tools (e.g. ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD/Revit, Dialux) to produce technical drawings and schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills, including ability for site-based troubleshooting.
  • Good communication, reporting, and stakeholder-engagement skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car (due to site travel requirements).
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Professional development support (including pathways to chartership).
  • Flexible working arrangements / remote-or-hybrid working depending on project needs.
  • Exposure to impactful infrastructure/water-sector projects with opportunity for growth and progression.
