JOB TITLE: Lead Developer

LOCATION: Hybrid working in Swindon

SALARY: £64,000 – £70,000 per annum

THE BUSINESS: C4S Search are working with a prestigious organisation as they continue to strengthen their technology capability, ensuring digital platforms and services support organisational strategy, improve engagement with supporters and enhance the overall visitor experience. This is an opportunity to take a lead technical role, shaping development standards and delivery while building and growing a high-performing development team aligned to a single architectural vision.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the planning, build and deployment of well-engineered, well-tested software solutions, including sprint planning and estimation
  • Maintain an initial 75% hands-on / 25% management split, evolving as the team grows
  • Act as the subject matter expert for development, providing mentoring and coaching
  • Line manage a DevOps Engineer initially, with responsibility for growing the development team over time
  • Undertake the role of Scrum Master where required
  • Ensure development standards, policies and best practices are consistently adhered to
  • Manage production releases and participate in change management processes
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Business Analysts and Architects to qualify development demand
  • Ensure end-user needs are considered across all development activity
  • Oversee and review functional design specifications
  • Manage and monitor output from external development partners, ensuring quality and compliance
  • Maintain awareness of system security requirements and comply with standards such as ISO27001
  • Ensure development activity aligns with wider business objectives and delivers measurable value
KEY SKILLS
  • Strong software development background across technologies such as ASP.NET / ASP.NET Core, C#, VB, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, MVC/Razor and SQL Server
  • Strong proficiency in Azure Integration Services, including API Management, Functions, Logic Apps, Service Bus, Event Grid, Event Hubs and Azure Storage
  • Experience with CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code, using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions and Bicep or Terraform
  • Strong experience designing and operating RESTful APIs (OpenAPI/Swagger, versioning, throttling, caching)
  • Solid understanding of Azure AD (Entra ID), OAuth2/OIDC, Managed Identity, Key Vault and RBAC
  • Strong experience working within Agile (SCRUM) environments, including testing practices such as TDD/BDD
  • Proven experience delivering solutions across major projects and BAU programmes
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
  • Experience leading and managing developers and DevOps engineers
  • Exposure to headless CMS platforms (e.g. Optimizely) and CRM integrations such as Microsoft Dynamics
  • Experience managing third-party suppliers delivering development services
  • Strong understanding of SOLID object-oriented design principles
  • Ability to context switch effectively between hands-on delivery and leadership responsibilities
