Overview
Lead Controls Technician
Location: Evesham, Worcestershire, UK
Salary: 45,000 - 50,000 per annum
Overall Purpose of Role: To assist with the setup, testing, and fault finding of control systems across all equipment, while producing supporting documentation and providing day-to-day technical support and leadership to the Controls Technician team.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of Controls Technicians to ensure timely completion of work, offering technical support and guidance as needed.
- Perform installation setup and testing of control systems.
- Provide support for machine wiring and panel work (e.g., hole punching, lash wiring).
- Download PLC control software into test systems.
- Calibrate associated equipment such as load cells and height sensors.
- Create and maintain robust test documentation.
- Ensure proper filing of test procedures to maintain an audit trail.
- Liaise with Project Management and Factory Team Leads on project deliverables.
- Oversee technical administration tasks, ensuring timely completion aligned with project milestones.
- Monitor stock levels for frequently used components and liaise with purchasing to maintain efficient inventory.
- Work with Controls Engineers to ensure all systems and devices function per design specifications.
- Ensure all controls equipment meets internal quality standards.
- Support R&D initiatives with machine build and testing activities.
- Ensure "as-built" AutoCAD Electrical drawings and documentation are kept up to date.

Skills & Abilities
- Expert ability to read and interpret technical documents and schematic designs.
- Proven understanding of control systems and manufacturing methods.
- Proficient in wiring single- and three-phase equipment.
- Experience with instrumentation such as proximity sensors, load cells, and RFID.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Competent in CAD software and basic software development tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong leadership qualities with the ability to mentor and develop team members.
- Organised and detail-oriented.
Experience & Qualifications
- HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical/Controls Engineering.
- Solid experience in:
- Panel building
- Wiring
- Soldering
- Cable termination
- Familiarity with BS7671 (18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations).
- Experience with Factory Acceptance Tests and related documentation is desirable.
- Previous supervisory or management experience is preferred but not essential.
Training Provided
- Functional training on tools such as AutoCAD and other relevant software.
- Internal systems and process training.
- Compliance training, including CE, ATEX, and other relevant legislative areas.
- Ongoing training and development will be provided as needed.
Location & Travel Requirements
- Based in Evesham, Worcestershire, UK
- Occasional travel to customer sites may be required to support installation or commissioning.
