The Role

We are seeking a Lead Civil/Structural Engineer to join a major infrastructure programme in a high-hazard, regulated environment.

This is a hands‑on, stakeholder‑facing role where you will lead complex engineering projects from concept through to completion, ensuring safe, compliant, and technically robust delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage contractor engineering support throughout the full project lifecycle

Review, approve, and assure designs, drawings, and technical documentation

Develop and define functional requirements, supporting optioneering and design decisions

Deliver safety‑critical engineering outputs, including contributions to Periodic Review of Safety (PRS) reports

Chair and participate in design reviews, HAZID workshops, and stakeholder meetings

Provide Independent Technical Appraisal (ITA) and Independent Peer Review (IPR)

Oversee detailed design, construction, commissioning, and decommissioning activities

Ensure compliance with EHS, Security, Quality, and site standards

Act as a trusted technical advisor to multidisciplinary internal and external stakeholders

Support capability development and mentor junior engineers within the discipline

Essential Experience & Skills

Proven experience delivering civil/structural engineering solutions on complex, high‑hazard projects

Strong background in assessing structures and equipment against safety and hazard requirements

Experience developing and applying design assurance frameworks

Theoretical and practical knowledge across the full engineering lifecycle

Experience operating within industrial and/or maritime environments

Confident stakeholder engagement across multidisciplinary engineering teams

Experience contributing to multi‑discipline projects, including electrical engineering interfaces (ideally within defence and/or nuclear environments)

Experience within highly regulated, high‑risk industries

Familiarity with safety case development, including HAZID/HAZOP studies

Experience within the UK nuclear sector (energy or defence)

Working knowledge of UK and US nuclear regulations, codes, and standards

Experience across nuclear, civil, and defence sectors

Qualifications

Accredited Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent experience)

Chartered Engineer (CEng) status

Relevant experience in marine and/or mechanical engineering environments

Working Arrangement

Hybrid working model based in Glasgow City Centre (3 days office / 2 days remote)

Occasional travel to a client operational site near Helensburgh for facility walkdowns and project activities

Candidates must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC level minimum)
