Overview
Lead Applied AI Engineer - 6 month contract - £700 pd Inside IR35 - Hybrid 2-3 days on site.
This role is Hybrid and can be based in London, Bristol or Manchester. The candidate would be expected to travel to London ad hoc for meetings as needed.
Responsibilities
- Play a central role in the AI programme, an ambitious initiative shaping how people interact with public services and improving customer experience across government.
- Build and deliver production-ready AI solutions, including AI agents or products that rely on AI agents.
- Develop tools and interfaces for AI applications and train traditional machine learning and deep learning models.
- Collaborate with technical teams, upskill and mentor colleagues, and help resolve conflicts where necessary.
- Explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications / Experience
- Proficiency in Python.
- Strong software engineering skills with a focus on production-ready systems.
- Experience deploying and monitoring systems in a cloud environment.
- Familiarity with tools for working with Large Language Models via API or in a local context.
- Experience with NLP, deep learning, and generative AI.
- Passion for building products that augment human capabilities.
- Experience delivering applications to production.
- Hands-on experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker.
- Experience designing software services with respect to infrastructure, databases, messaging queues, cloud environments, and collaboration with existing services.
- Ability to train and work with AI models and related tooling.
