Baston House School is seeking a dedicated and inspiring KS3 Nurture Teacher to join our team on a fixed-term basis covering paternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate teacher to make a real difference in the lives of pupils with autism and additional needs. You will help create an inclusive, supportive environment where every pupil can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

About the Role

You will lead a small Key Stage 3 nurture class, delivering a broad, balanced curriculum tailored to individual EHCPs while promoting life skills, emotional regulation, communication, and independence. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team—including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, behaviour analysts, and pastoral staff—working together to remove barriers to learning and ensure every pupil feels valued and supported.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual EHCPs
• Create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
• Promote pupil wellbeing, confidence, and emotional development alongside academic progress
• Use a range of teaching strategies and assistive technologies to meet individual needs
• Monitor, assess, and report on pupil progress using school systems
• Work closely with parents / carers and external professionals to provide holistic support
• Participate in school life, including staff meetings, CPD, and school events
• Maintain accurate records of behaviour, incidents, and pupil progress
• Contribute to curriculum planning and policy development as required

Who We’re Looking For

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
• Experience teaching pupils with autism or learning difficulties
• Strong classroom management and behaviour regulation skills
• Ability to plan and adapt lessons for a range of learning styles and abilities
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills
• A reflective, proactive, and solution-focused approach

Desirable

• Knowledge of TEACCH, PECS, SCERTS, or similar frameworks
• Experience in specialist or alternative provision settings
• Understanding of trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour support
• Ability to deliver a nurture-based curriculum and contribute to social / emotional learning
• Familiarity with EHCP processes and statutory reporting
