Kitchen Assistant – Nursery Setting

We are looking for a Kitchen Assistant who is dedicated to supporting our nursery team and ensuring that every mealtime is a positive, safe, and enjoyable experience for our children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve ready‑cooked meals to children, following portion and presentation guidelines.
  • Prepare simple meals such as sandwiches and salads.
  • Adhere to all food hygiene and safety legislation, maintaining a professional standard at all times.
  • Follow procedures for food allergies, intolerances, and special dietary requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen and pantry.
  • Manage and record kitchen safety checks, including fridge and freezer temperatures.
  • Rotate stock, put away deliveries, and monitor expiry dates.
  • Support infection control by following cleaning schedules and hygiene procedures.
  • Dispose of waste safely and responsibly.
  • Report any faults or maintenance issues promptly.
  • Attend mandatory training such as Food Hygiene, Health and Safety, and Infection Control.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Experience of working in a professional food establishment such as a school, nursery, café, or catering setting.
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2) or equivalent qualification – essential.
  • Good understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Awareness of children’s allergies and dietary needs.
  • Reliable, organised, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Friendly, caring, and committed to supporting children’s health and wellbeing.
  • Willing to undertake cleaning and housekeeping duties as part of the role.

Hours of Work: 9.30‑1.30 Monday to Friday – Hours can be negotiated.
