What You’ll Do
  • Managing and growing a portfolio of DIY and mass merchant accounts
  • Driving new business development within the builders merchant channel
  • Combining account stewardship with an entrepreneurial approach to secure new listings, expand distribution, and unlock incremental growth
Key Responsibilities & Tasks
New Business Development (c.30%)
  • Identify, approach, and secure new customer opportunities in the builders merchant channel (regional and national)
  • Develop tailored propositions for trade-focused retailers
  • Open new accounts, negotiate listings, and establish profitable terms
  • Build a sustainable pipeline of prospects to expand market reach
Account Management (c.70%)
  • Manage a defined portfolio of DIY and mass merchant customers, delivering annual sales and profit targets
  • Develop and execute joint business plans in line with customer and company objectives
  • Negotiate promotions, listings, and trading terms within commercial guidelines
  • Maintain strong, professional relationships with buyer and trading teams, acting as first point of contact
Commercial & Operational Excellence
  • Manage promotional spend, rebates, and investments to ensure profitability
  • Track account performance vs. budget and provide accurate monthly forecasts
  • Ensure service levels, availability, and supply chain compliance
Insights & Collaboration
  • Analyse sales, market, and competitor data to identify growth opportunities
  • Share insights with internal stakeholders to shape channel strategies and NPD launches
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, supply chain, finance, and customer service teams
Essential Experience & Skills
  • Commercial sales experience (Area Sales, Territory Manager, Junior NAM, or KAM)
  • Exposure to DIY, mass merchant, or trade/merchant retailers
  • Strong commercial acumen with understanding of margins, terms, and profitability
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence decision-makers
  • Ambitious, resilient, and motivated by new business wins
Desirable
  • Previous responsibility for P&L elements or promotional budgets
  • Experience of presenting to senior customer contacts
  • Knowledge of the UK DIY, garden, or trade channel landscape
