Job Description
The tax function is looking to recruit an experienced team member to manage a wide range of projects and responsibilities.
The team is part of Global Tax and sits within Finance in East Finchley, London. We support the UK and Republic of Ireland (“UK&I”) business across all taxes. The role involves strategic responsibilities for both ad‑hoc advisory work and compliance related projects.
The work will span different taxes, multiple responsibilities on the go and thus the role requires leadership skills, pro‑activity, technical strength, resilience and a willingness to develop themselves as well as coach others in the team.
Qualifications
- Qualified accountant and/or Chartered tax advisor (e.g. ACA, CTA and equivalents) with a corporate tax background in practice and/or industry. Experience across different taxes is useful, otherwise a strong desire to expand tax knowledge is essential.
- Strong across the board in key competencies, including Leadership, Teamwork, Communication, Tax technical ability, Project management skills.
- The candidate should demonstrate the potential to be a future leader.
- Having a continuous improvement mind‑set, working optimally under time pressure, being flexible in juggling multiple tasks and learning quickly on the job are key attributes for this role.
- The candidate should demonstrate curiosity, be commercially aware – understanding the connections between business and tax and communicate clearly to different stakeholders, whether internal or external.
- Being adaptable to the dynamically changing environment (e.g. changing legislation, working practices or adoption of new technology).
- Self‑awareness and a true understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses, and being able to be resilient, adapt and compensate.
- Experience of managing, developing and coaching people.
- Knowledge of accounting, accounting principles and FRS102 or equivalents.
- Experience in Excel, including lookups, pivot tables and similar functions.
- Ability to utilise and understand the pros and cons of different software packages and finance systems.
Additional Information
What will my accountabilities be:
Leading the business’ tax risk through working closely as a team to handle internal and external partner requirements. This covers a wide range of projects, including:
- Running core tax areas covering projections and UK&I compliance responsibilities across direct tax, indirect tax and some employment taxes.
- Monitor developments in tax legislation and case law to find opportunities or threats.
- Pro‑actively designing and implementing new processes and procedures to improve working practices and acquire efficiency gains.
- Participate in cross‑functional teams within the business in order to provide tax advice e.g. new products, services or policies.
- Resolving accurate VAT treatment of products and transactions.
- Building relationships with UK and Irish tax authorities and dealing with reviews and correspondence.
- Supporting Global Tax and the US on any wider initiatives and tax requirements.
- Working with external advisors to obtain tax advice, digesting the information and implementing it in a practical way.
- Developing tax processes and governance areas around tax risk e.g. SAO, SOX.
