Overview

Junior Sister / Charge Nurse - Acute Medical Unit (AMU) at Wexham Park Hospital. Permanent and fixed-term (12 month) roles in a fast-paced, high-turnover AMU environment caring for patients with a wide range of acute medical conditions. As a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse, you will be a key member of the AMU leadership team, working closely alongside senior nurses, the matron, and the wider multidisciplinary team to support the delivery and ongoing development of AMU services. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in an ever-changing clinical environment, demonstrates strong clinical judgement, and is passionate about delivering high-quality, compassionate, patient-centred care. Responsibilities
  • Support the Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses and Matron in delivering excellent, compassionate care for patients, relatives, and visitors.
  • Undertake leadership roles, including Nurse in Charge of the unit or a designated area.
  • Coordinate and navigate patient flow from the Emergency Department into AMU.
  • Plan, manage, direct, and evaluate nursing care for a defined caseload of patients.
  • Maintain and monitor high standards of care and professional practice to support the effective running of the unit.
  • Act as a professional role model, providing advice, guidance, and support to staff and students to help them reach their potential.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, visitors, colleagues, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ensure all Trust policies, procedures, and directives are adhered to at ward level.
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement, and service development initiatives to enhance clinical practice and maintain standards.
