About The Role

We are a well-established and growing accountancy practice based in North Shields, seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accounts Assistant to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with prior experience in a small to medium-sized practice, looking to develop their skills further in a supportive and professional environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of year‑end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
  • Process and reconcile client bookkeeping records using software such as Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage
  • Prepare VAT returns and ensure compliance with HMRC requirements
  • Support senior accountants with the preparation of management accounts
  • Assist with monthly bank reconciliations, prepayments, accruals, and fixed asset schedules
  • Liaise with clients to gather required documentation and resolve basic queries
  • Maintain accurate and organised client files, both digitally and in physical format
  • Ensure deadlines are met and work is completed in line with internal quality standards
Candidate Requirements
  • 12 years experience in a similar role within a UK-based accountancy practice
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and year-end account preparation
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g. Xero, Sage, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel
  • Working knowledge of VAT and bookkeeping
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A positive, proactive attitude and willingness to learn
