CONTRACT TYPE: 2 x Fixed-term Contract, Full-time / Attachment, Full-time (1 x to 27/02/2026 and 1 x to 31/05/2026)

DEPARTMENT: BBC Sport

LOCATION: Salford

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £28,500 – £38,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Join BBC Radio Sport to help deliver the biggest sporting events and stories to audiences across the UK. As a Journalist, you’ll play a key role in producing and delivering live sport, magazine shows, podcasts, and daily sports stories, working with other platforms to help shape distinctive and engaging content.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact

  • Produce and direct live sport programmes in studio settings.
  • Create engaging, insightful discussion shows with original ideas and editorial angles.
  • Write and edit scripts and cut audio using editing tools.
  • Support the production of complex shows, outside broadcasts, and special projects.
  • Ensure content is suitable for multiple BBC platforms to maximise reach.

Essential Criteria

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A passion for and knowledge of a wide range of sports.
  • Experience producing live programmes and making editorial decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to write for radio audiences and edit audio quickly and effectively.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills with a collaborative mindset.
  • Understanding of BBC Radio 5 Live Sport and how to contribute to its output.

Desired But Not Required

  • Experience briefing on-air contributors to enhance programme quality.
  • Familiarity with podcast production and digital storytelling.
  • Awareness of audience trends and content consumption habits.
  • Commitment to improving diversity and inclusion in content and teams.
  • Ability to develop original stories and programme ideas with editorial guidance.
