Requirements for the role
- You must have an existing and valid right to work for the duration of the apprenticeship in the UK. Applicants who require a visa to work in the UK should be aware that our apprenticeships are ineligible for sponsorship.
- Availability to complete the level 4 apprenticeship up to a 19‑month duration
- Evidence of having been resident in the UK for 3 years prior to taking up the apprenticeship in September this year or candidates who qualify for an exemption as stated here: Apprenticeship funding rules - GOV.UK
- At least 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) with results of 5 and above. Please note that three of the GCSEs must be Maths, Science and English.
- Ability to be onsite five days per week, either at our factory in Brackley or at the apprenticeship learning provider (located in Milton Keynes or Coventry).
- We will check you meet the criteria as part of the application process as this will need to be evidenced before you can start the programme.
About the Role
As a Level 4 IT Network Apprentice at the Mercedes‑AMG Petronas Formula One Team, you will develop the technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional behaviours required to support and maintain enterprise‑scale networking infrastructure in a high‑performance environment.
This role combines structured learning with hands‑on experience, enabling you to apply networking theory in a real‑world setting while working towards a recognised Level 4 apprenticeship qualification. You will work closely with experienced network engineers and IT professionals, contributing to the reliability, performance, and security of business‑critical network systems that support the team both on and off the track.
Role Responsibilities
Network Operations & Support (Skills)
- Assist in the installation, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of enterprise network infrastructure
- Support data centre, campus, and wireless network environments
- Perform first‑ and second‑line troubleshooting of network incidents using a structured, logical approach
- Assist with routine network maintenance, upgrades, and changes in line with approved procedures
- Monitor network performance and availability, escalating issues where appropriate
Network Technologies & Security (Knowledge & Skills)
- Support the configuration and maintenance of routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and related systems
- Apply core networking knowledge including TCP/IP, IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, routing, and switching
- Support basic network security controls such as access management, perimeter security, and secure configurations
- Follow organisational security policies, data protection requirements, and compliance standards
Documentation, Change & Service Management (Knowledge & Skills)
- Maintain accurate network documentation including diagrams, asset registers, and configuration records
- Record incidents, service requests, and resolutions in line with IT service management processes
- Support change management activities by following documented procedures and controls
- Understand and apply best practices for incident, problem, and change management
Collaboration & Professional Practice (Behaviours)
- Work collaboratively across the IT Department to support business‑critical systems
- Communicate clearly and professionally with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Demonstrate accountability, reliability, and professionalism in a high‑performance environment

Entry Requirements
Essential:
- Completion of a Level 3 qualification in IT, networking, or a related subject, or equivalent experience
- Strong interest in networking and infrastructure technologies
Desirable:
- Basic hands‑on experience with networking equipment or lab environments
- Industry‑recognised certifications or working towards them (e.g. Cisco, CompTIA)
- Previous experience in an IT support or technology‑focused role
Training & Development You will receive
- Structured on‑the‑job training aligned to Level 4 apprenticeship standards

- Opportunities to build an evidence portfolio and prepare for End‑Point Assessment (EPA)
Career Progression
Successful completion of the Level 4 apprenticeship may lead to progression into roles such as:
- Network Administrator
- Network Analyst
- Junior Network Engineer
With further development towards higher‑level infrastructure or network engineering roles.
