Intermittent Self Catheterisation (ISC) Advisor

We are looking for a Nurse to join our team as Intermittent Self Catheterisation (ISC) Advisor.

The CUSP Community Nurse ISC Advisor will be responsible for teaching patients how to perform Intermittent Self-Catheterisation (ISC), providing evidence‑based education and advice to patients and their carers. The post holder will also provide advice and support to patients living with indwelling urinary catheters and will deputise in the absence of the Band 7 Nurse.

The role requires knowledge of continence and decision making in relation to urinary catheterisation and being able to identify those patients at risk of requiring medical intervention. Specific knowledge would be advantageous however training will be given for the right candidate.

The postholder will be accountable for clinical decision making in relation to catheterisation, associated care for both indwelling and intermittent catheter techniques and procedures and best practice, whilst utilising SHFT CUSAP formulary.

Alongside the Clinical Nurse Specialists, the postholder will support the team and its development working within relevant NMC, DOH, RCN and NICE guidance.

Main duties of the job
  • To work collaboratively with the multi‑disciplinary team and other health professionals, organisations and agencies, coordinating care in order to improve standards for patients.
  • To implement and deliver knowledge, underpinned by relevant theory, qualifications, and experience.
  • To work autonomously as a nurse advisor following SHFT CUSAP formularies and supporting patients as appropriate.
  • To treat others with empathy, dignity and respect, particularly in complex and sensitive situations.
  • To include patients and carers in discussions relating to their care plans and their responsibilities within their care.
