Qualifications

Solicitor - Insurance (Casualty Team)

Location: Manchester (Hybrid options available)

Position: Solicitor (NQ+) - Defendant Insurance Litigation

Hours: Full-time, 36.25 hours per week

A well-regarded UK law firm is seeking a Newly Qualified Solicitor (or those approaching qualification) to join its established Defendant Insurance Litigation team based in Manchester. This is a superb opportunity for an ambitious junior lawyer to develop within a recognised team offering high-quality work and excellent long-term career prospects.

The Opportunity

Working as part of a leading Casualty team, you\'ll be handling a varied caseload of fast-track and multi-track defendant personal injury claims. The caseload primarily includes Employers\' Liability (EL), Public Liability (PL), and Disease claims, with potential exposure to Fraud matters as well.

You\'ll be part of a team that acts for a diverse range of clients including insurers, local authorities, and large corporate entities. You\'ll receive strong supervision and support while also having the autonomy to progress files and engage directly with clients.

Responsibilities
  • Managing a caseload of defendant EL/PL and disease claims, with possible fraud element
  • Liaising with clients, insurers, courts, counsel, and opposing solicitors
  • Drafting pleadings, correspondence, and legal documents
  • Advising clients on liability, quantum, strategy, and prospects
  • Attending court hearings, conferences, and mediations as required
  • Ensuring compliance with KPIs, billing targets, and quality standards
  • Contributing to business development, marketing, and networking activities
  • Supporting senior colleagues on more complex or high-value matters
  • Maintaining high levels of client care and service delivery
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Qualified Solicitor (NQ+) or CILEX, or due to qualify in the next few months
  • Solid experience in defendant personal injury litigation, particularly EL/PL
  • Good working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules
  • Confident managing your own caseload, with supervision where appropriate
  • Experience using legal case management systems (e.g. Proclaim, P4W)
  • Excellent communication, drafting, and negotiation skills
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines under pressure
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach
  • Genuine interest in growing within a specialist insurance litigation team

Desirable (Not Essential):

  • Experience advising local authorities or working with public sector clients
  • Previous exposure to disease or fraud litigation
  • Involvement in business development or marketing activities
