Specialist Instructor/Unqualified Teacher

Workington

Flexible opportunities for Full or part time

Term time only Monday to Friday 8.30am - 3.30pm

Do you possess outstanding life experience/degree and the resilience to teach and mentor young people? We are seeking an exceptional, unqualified teacher/instructor to deliver a bespoke curriculum and transform outcomes for students in our school settings across Workington and Allerdale.

The Role: Teaching with Impact, Not QTS

This pivotal role focuses on relationship-based teaching for students who have faced significant educational and social barriers. While Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is NOT required, you must have substantial experience, expertise, and passion in a field relevant to working with disengaged or vulnerable young people.

What You Will Do:
  • Deliver Bespoke Learning: Plan and teach engaging, highly differentiated lessons to small groups or 1:1, focusing on core subjects (e.g., Functional Skills Maths/English) or a vocational/specialist area (e.g., Outdoor Education, Construction, Creative Arts).
  • Implement Therapeutic Strategies: Use a trauma-informed and restorative approach to manage complex and challenging behaviour, creating a safe, consistent, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Focus on SEMH/SEND: Work closely with the SENCO and support staff to ensure all teaching aligns with students' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs.
  • Be a Mentor: Act as a key adult and positive role model, building professional, trusting relationships that enable students to regulate their emotions and re‑engage with education.
  • Team Leadership: Direct and guide support staff (Teaching Assistants/TA's) within your classroom or intervention setting to maximise student outcomes.
