Overview

As an Infrastructure Engineer, working as part of the IT Services team, you will provide vital technology services to operational and enabling staff in a range of projects and day-to-day work. We work closely with our colleagues across the sector and the criminal justice system at home and abroad.

This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of an onsite IT Infrastructure Team (ITIT) maintaining and supporting a varied IT estate including SaaS, on premise server systems, server based applications, SANs and network communications in a secure environment including a dedicated digital forensics network. Our team supports a server/network infrastructure of over 500 endpoints including 3PB of storage, 800 staff and 1,100 desktops/laptops.

You will be required to provide "hands on" technical support (through Incident, Service Request, Change & Problem Management procedures) covering all aspects of the infrastructure including SecOps while always looking for ways to improve day to day service delivery. A significant percentage of your time will be spent on IT and cyber security projects, including design, and service improvement work with the right candidates having the opportunity to technically lead projects affecting the SFO as a whole. As such it is imperative to adopt critical thinking and show initiative when completing duties assisting the Lead Infrastructure Engineer, Head of IT Services and Head of Cyber Security while complementing your own career development. To be successful in the role, you will also be required to develop close working relationships with staff within the organisation, OGDs and 3rd parties including vendors.

As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will be required to participate in an on-call rota providing out of hours business critical infrastructure support, for which overtime is awarded. This responsibility is shared equally between the team, currently requiring the candidate to be on call 1 week in 6. There will also be the opportunity to compliment your salary assisting the team with some out of hours project and maintenance work.

Key responsibilities
  • Have a high level of technical ability and confidence to work unsupervised is paramount while working on projects and maintaining the infrastructure
  • Ensure general and HMG technical authority (e.g. NCSC) cyber security principles and the secure by design methodology are incorporated within everything you do
  • Work to tight deadlines while prioritising multiple high impact tasks
  • Ensure implementation, fault solutions, common tasks and maintenance procedures are documented in a way that supports the team
  • Recommend potential improvements in technology and processes to the Lead Infrastructure Engineer and Head of IT Operations

Candidates who are successful at the sift stage will be invited to complete an in-person assessment at our offices in Cockspur Street, London, SW1Y 5BS week commencing 27th October. This exercise is designed to test your ability to meet the essential experience requirements for the role and will include several scenario-based questions.

Interview stage

Candidates who are successful at the assessment stage will be invited to a final interview via MS Teams. Behaviours and essential experience as outlined in the job pack will be tested at interview.
