About the Role

Position : Non-Executive Director (Commercial and marketing)

Accountable to : President and Board of the BVF.

Remuneration : This is a voluntary role, with expenses reimbursed in accordance with the BVF’s Business and Travel Expenses Policy. The role as independent director can take up to 2 days a month within project work.

We are seeking a strategic, commercially minded, and experienced leader to join our Board as Commercial and Marketing Director. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the commercial future and global positioning of British Volleyball across indoor, beach, and sitting disciplines.

As we look ahead to the Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we are determined to build a sustainable and high‑performing commercial model that supports performance teams and creates long‑term brand value for the sport. The successful candidate will help the BVF expand its commercial partnerships, marketing reach, and international profile while aligning our strategy with the global growth of volleyball and paravolley.

You will bring a strong track record of business development, sponsorship acquisition, brand activation, and ideally international marketing leadership; skills central to driving engagement, investment, and recognition for British Volleyball on the global stage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead the commercial and marketing strategy for the BVF, driving income growth through sponsorships, partnerships, media rights, and digital innovation.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of strategic partners across sport, media, and industry sectors maximising mutual value and visibility.
  • Oversee the development and execution of the BVF’s brand, marketing, and communications strategy, enhancing awareness and reputation nationally and internationally.
  • Support the creation of a global commercial framework that aligns with FIVB, CEV, and World ParaVolley structures and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the BVF Board and Home Nations to ensure commercial priorities align with performance and participation objectives.
  • Drive innovation in digital fan engagement, event marketing, and broadcast strategy to grow audiences and revenues.
  • Enhance the possibility for commercial opportunities at BVF events.
  • Offer strategic insight and challenge at Board level on all business and commercial decisions, ensuring robust governance and financial sustainability.
Person Specification

Essential :

  • Proven experience in commercial, marketing, or partnership leadership within sport, entertainment, or global brand environments.
  • Demonstrated success in driving revenue growth, negotiating partnerships, and building strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Strategic understanding of sport governance, media, and sponsorship landscapes.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate strategy into measurable outcomes.
  • Ability to operate effectively at Board level, balancing creative vision with commercial discipline.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and influencing skills.
  • A passion for growing the visibility and impact of British sport on a global scale.

Desirable :

  • Experience of international commercial and marketing leadership
  • Experience with Olympic or Paralympic sport, or working within international federations.
  • Knowledge of volleyball or other high‑growth team sports.
  • Experience leading or advising a governing body, rights holder, or major event property.
