Job description
Company Description

TOMRA was founded in 1972, based on the design, manufacturing and sale of reverse vending machines (RVMs) for automated collection of used beverage containers. Today TOMRA provides solutions that enable the circular economy with advanced collection and sorting systems, and food processing by employing sensor-based sorting and grading technology. At TOMRA, we value and encourage innovation, passion and responsibility in everything we do.

TOMRA Group employs 5,000 people globally and is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange (OSE: TOM). TOMRA was named Norway's Most Innovative Business in 2023, number one in the list of the country's top 25 companies.

TOMRA Collection is a leading innovator in the circular economy and Clean Loop Recycling. Founded on the invention of the world's first reverse vending machine, we are now responsible for approximately 85,000 installations across more than 60 markets. By providing an effective and efficient way of collecting, sorting and processing containers, TOMRA's reverse vending systems make it easy for consumers to recycle and contribute to a more sustainable planet.

In the UK, we are currently building our local organisation and are at a very exciting point in our journey, with the launch of a UK Deposit Return Scheme in October 2027.

Job Description

Join TOMRA and lead the way in creating a safe, sustainable, and compliant work environment for all.

At TOMRA, safety and sustainability are at the heart of everything we do. We're looking for an experienced Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager to take ownership of all HSE matters across TOMRA Collection UK operations—covering offices, warehouses, Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) sites, and partner locations.

This pivotal role ensures compliance with UK legislation and TOMRA's Safe Management System (TSMS), while driving a proactive safety culture. You will be the primary source of HSE expertise, supporting the Managing Director and leading initiatives that protect our people, customers, and partners.

What You’ll Do
  • Ensure Legal Compliance

Adhere to UK HSE legislation (e.g., Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, RIDDOR, COSHH, Fire Safety, Mental Health at Work Act 2025).

  • Maintain and Improve Policies

Update TOMRA's HSE policies and procedures to meet statutory and company requirements.

  • Risk Management

Develop, implement, and review risk assessments and safe systems of work across all operations.

  • Incident & Audit Oversight

Lead incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions; manage internal/external audits and maintain documentation.

  • Training & Culture

Deliver engaging HSE training and promote a proactive safety culture using leading and lagging indicators.

  • Stakeholder Engagement

Act as the main contact for UK regulators, auditors, customers, and partners; provide HSE input in RFP/tender processes.

  • Digital & Emerging Risks

Support digital transformation of HSE systems; monitor emerging risks like automation, climate resilience, and mental health.

  • Emergency, Sustainability & Reporting

Lead emergency response planning, environmental compliance, wellbeing initiatives, contractor standards, and report on HSE KPIs and annual performance.

Qualifications
  • Proven experience in HSE management within multi‑site operations.
  • Strong knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to lead initiatives and influence positive change.
  • A collaborative approach with a passion for safety and sustainability.
