Overview

Are you ready to support some of the most vulnerable members of the community?

A local authority in Exeter is looking for an experienced Housing Options Caseworker to join their Housing Solutions team on a 2-month contract. This vital role focuses on preventing and relieving homelessness through direct advice, intervention, and case management. You will provide person-centred housing advice, develop prevention plans, and manage homelessness applications in accordance with statutory duties. The successful candidate will work closely with a range of stakeholders, including landlords, support agencies, and internal departments.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver tailored housing advice to residents threatened with homelessness
  • Develop and implement personalised housing action plans
  • Manage a busy caseload, conducting full homelessness assessments
  • Make decisions in line with statutory guidance and issue s.184 notifications
  • Engage with landlords, legal services, and health/social care professionals
  • Assist in securing accommodation via private rental, supported housing or social housing routes
  • Apply discretionary funding as needed to support prevention and relief outcomes
Essential Requirements
  • Minimum of 1 year's experience in a similar public-facing role, supporting homeless or vulnerable clients
  • In-depth working knowledge of:
    • Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
    • The Localism Act 2011
    • Housing Act 1996 Part VII (as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002)
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload in a fast-paced environment
  • Competency in maintaining clear and accurate case records
