Location: Rotherham

Salary: £23,875 per annum

Hours: 37 ½ hours per week 4 on 4 off shift system

The Role

At the Hospice, their Housekeepers do more than maintain cleanliness, they create a comforting and dignified environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff. This role is about building meaningful relationships, offering warmth and reassurance, and ensuring the highest standards of hygiene, safety, and infection control.

As part of the Living Life’s Wishes strategy, this role is deeply personal, ensuring that every space feels like a place of comfort, care, and peace. Housekeepers interact daily with patients and families, offering a familiar, friendly face that contributes to the hospice’s compassionate atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cleaning & Hygiene Management
  • Maintain high cleanliness and hygiene standards in patient rooms, communal areas, clinical spaces, and cafe locations.
  • Carry out regular dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and surface sanitisation following infection control protocols.
  • Ensure waste disposal follows environmental health and infection control guidelines.
  • Support café areas by maintaining clean tables, kitchen areas, and safe food hygiene practices.
  • Patient & Visitor Engagement
  • Provide a warm, friendly presence, ensuring patient rooms remain comfortable and personal preferences are respected.
  • Build meaningful rapport with patients and families, offering compassion and dignity in all interactions.
  • Assist patients with small practical tasks when appropriate, ensuring they feel valued and cared for.
  • Work closely with the clinical and hospitality teams to support patient well-being and comfort.
  • Compliance, Infection Control & Safety
    • Follow CQC, infection prevention, and health & safety regulations at all times.
    • Use appropriate cleaning chemicals, PPE, and sanitisation methods in line with policies.
    • Monitor cleaning schedules and ensure audit-ready compliance with hospice hygiene standards.
    Collaboration & Team Support
    • Work closely with the Hospitality Manager, Café Supervisors, and Clinical Teams to maintain a smooth operational environment.
    • Provide cleaning support across hospice café locations as required, ensuring welcoming and sanitary conditions for customers.
    • Support special projects, deep cleaning tasks, and seasonal cleaning as needed.
    Skills and Qualifications

    Essential:

    • Experience in housekeeping, cleaning, or hospitality (preferably in a healthcare or hospice setting).
    • Knowledge of infection control, hygiene best practices, and health & safety regulations.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with patients, families, and staff.
    • Ability to work independently and within a team to maintain a compassionate, patient-centred atmosphere.
    • A full UK driving licence, supporting work across multiple hospice sites. Ideally with access to own vehicle

    Desirable

    • Experience in hospice, care, or healthcare environments.
    • Understanding of CQC hygiene compliance and infection control measures.
    • Ability to speak multiple languages to connect with Rotherham’s diverse community.
