Overview

Job Title: Hospital Porter

Location: Manchester, Greater Manchester

Salary: from £12.55 per hour to £15.00 per hour

Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time / Temporary

Reports To: Facilities Manager / Portering Supervisor

Main Duties & Responsibilities
  • Transport patients between wards, departments, and theatres using wheelchairs or trolleys.
  • Move medical equipment, supplies, and furniture as required.
  • Deliver specimens to pathology and collect medications from pharmacy.
  • Assist with the transfer of deceased patients to the mortuary.
  • Respond to emergency calls (e.g. crash trolley delivery).
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of portering equipment.
  • Follow infection control and manual handling procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Report faults, incidents, or hazards promptly.
Person Specification
  • Physical fitness; Able to lift, push, and walk long distances.
  • Manual handling training.
  • Communication skills; Clear and courteous communication.
  • Experience in patient-facing roles.
