Location: Clapgate Primary School

Contract: Permanent, Term-Time Only

Hours: 35.5hrs (8:30am – 4:00pm; 8:30am – 4:30pm on Wednesdays – half hour lunch)

Salary: S01 points 23 – 25 (pro rata)

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a specialism in Speech & Language to join our supportive team. In this unique role, you will deliver targeted speech, language, and communication therapy sessions in the mornings, primarily working with EYFS and KS1 pupils. Afternoons will involve providing HLTA cover across classes for PPA time, contributing to the broader learning environment at Clapgate.

Key Responsibilities

Speech & Language (Morning Sessions)

• Deliver therapy programmes devised by the Speech & Language Therapist to individual pupils or small groups.
• Recognise and support a range of communication difficulties under professional guidance.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENDCO, therapists, and external professionals to plan and implement individualised SALT interventions.
• Provide advice and training to parents, carers, and education practitioners.
• Maintain therapy materials and monitor pupil progress, adjusting support as needed.
• Promote speech, language, and communication development across the school and community.

HLTA Cover (Afternoon Sessions)

• Plan and lead class teaching sessions across the curriculum, supporting pupil learning and inclusion.
• Use effective behaviour management strategies consistent with school policies.
• Manage resources and create a stimulating, safe learning environment.
• Observe and report on pupil performance and progress.
• Support other adults in assisting pupils learning.
• Communicate effectively with staff, parents, carers, and professionals regarding pupil progress.
• Promote safeguarding and wellbeing in accordance with statutory guidance.

Other Duties

• Comply with all school policies including safeguarding, health and safety, and confidentiality.
• Participate in professional development and training.
• Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, pupils, and external agencies.
• Complete First Aid training if required.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Experience delivering speech and language therapy programmes or working closely with SALT professionals.
• Proven skills in recognising and supporting a range of communication difficulties.
• HLTA status or equivalent qualification.
• Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
• Ability to plan and deliver high‑quality teaching and interventions, especially in EYFS and KS1.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience working within the primary curriculum, ideally up to Year 6.
