Overview

Academics is seeking a dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in Crawley. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in supporting students who require a structured and nurturing learning environment, helping them build confidence, develop skills, and engage positively in their education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver targeted learning support through small group sessions and individual interventions
  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering lessons, adapting resources to suit varying needs
  • Support students with emotional regulation, behaviour, and classroom engagement
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN professionals, therapists, and pastoral staff to ensure cohesive support for all students
Requirements
  • HLTA qualification or extensive experience as a Teaching Assistant with evidence of progression
  • Proven experience working with students with SEMH or other Special Educational Needs
  • Confident in leading groups, delivering structured support, and responding to individual learning needs
  • Resilient, patient, and proactive with a genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable young people
