Overview

HLTA – Secondary – SEND – Walsall

A mainstream secondary school in Walsall is seeking an experienced HLTA to join their dedicated SEND team. This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a varied and rewarding role, supporting students with a range of special educational needs while also leading and guiding a small team of teaching assistants.

As a HLTA, you will work closely with the SENCO and wider school team to ensure students receive the highest quality support. You will help coordinate the work of the teaching assistants, deliver targeted interventions, and provide direct support to students within lessons and in the school’s SEND hub. The role requires a confident, proactive individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting students with SEND in lessons and small group settings.
  • Delivering targeted interventions for academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Leading and guiding a small team of teaching assistants, sharing best practice.
  • Working closely with the SENCO to plan, monitor, and evaluate SEND support.
  • Providing feedback to teaching staff and parents on student progress.
  • Supporting behaviour management and promoting positive student engagement.
The ideal candidate will have
  • HLTA qualification (or equivalent experience).
  • Previous experience working with SEND students in a secondary setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to manage and support a team.
  • The ability to remain calm and positive under pressure.
  • A genuine passion for improving outcomes for young people with SEND.
