Job description

Working on behalf of a local authority, we are looking for an experienced Road Safety Engineer. This post will initially be for six months with possibilities for extensions/ temp to perm. Full time, 37 hours per week paying £27.50 per hour PAYE which is equivalent to £52,910 salary or £36.37 per hour through an umbrella.

Main purpose of the job:

To undertake road safety engineering functions, including undertaking studies, preparing designs and undertaking the client role in relation to road safety engineering projects and interventions, provided to support Local Transport Plan policies and procedures. Activities include:

  • Developing a range of road safety projects which improve the safety of highway provision to service users;
  • Assessing requests from customers, including elected Members and the public, regarding road safety issues;
  • Undertaking local and wider-area road safety reviews and collision studies;
  • Undertaking client role for road safety projects;
  • Working in partnership with colleagues within the Directorate and wider Council, and with the Police and other stakeholders on road safety issues;
  • Undertaking road safety audits
Working Style:

HYBRID - a flexible working arrangement whereby an employee can undertake their work either in the office and/or partially or mainly from home on a temporary or permanent basis. The role involves site working/attending site as required.

Knowledge:
  • Highway legislation relating to traffic management and road safety engineering processes.
  • Highway engineering, including oversight of highway alteration and new highway construction projects.
  • Highway design principles.
  • Highway project management principles.
  • Highway engineering design software packages
Experience:
  • Relevant demonstrable experience (minimum 5 years) of working in a Highway Engineering role in a local authority, public body or similar organisation, including applying transport engineering solutions, political awareness, partnership working and best value principles.
  • Managing individual highway related projects and or workstreams.
  • Experience of applying project management principles, practices, and methods.
  • Experience of undertaking direct responsibility for the supervision, co-ordination, or training of other employees.
