A Vacancy at Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust. An opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated Clinical / Practitioner Psychologist to join our Inpatient Psychology Service working across our Mental Health Inpatient Rehabilitation (0.5wte) and Inpatient Addictions Service (0.5wte). This is a split post.
We welcome applications from applicants who are registered with the Health Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist and have post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology accredited by the BPS, or its approved equivalent. This post is advertised at band 7-8a; we would be willing to accept applications from newly qualified Psychologists, appointed at band 7 Preceptorship with a programme of competencies to reach the 8a level. We are also accepting applications from Practitioner Psychologists.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organisation and communication skills and be motivated to ensure high standards of proficiency and professional practice. The post holder will report directly to the Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist psychological assessment, intervention and formulation for service users residing on Inpatient Wards at Rathbone Rehabilitation Centre and the Hope Centre for Addictions.
- Utilise a range of models where appropriate and contribute to service development and innovations.
- Offer specialist advice, leadership and consultation to non-psychologist colleagues; support the development of psychological skills across the workforce through specialist training, supervision, mentorship and reflective practice.
- Work with an assistant psychologist to support the delivery of individual and group psychological interventions; supervise and manage workloads of assistant psychologists and trainee clinical psychologists as required.
- Contribute to continuing professional development, training, research, advising and supporting the multi-disciplinary team as appropriate.
- Collaborate with senior staff to shape service delivery and be involved in ongoing service development; participate in the Self Harm Pathway and Positive Behavioural Support for challenging behaviours.
- Report to the Consultant Clinical Psychologist and contribute to integrated care within the inpatient setting.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Registered with the Health Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist.
- Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology accredited by the BPS, or its approved equivalent.
- Flexible approach to work; willing to consider applicants for band 7 Preceptorship if newly qualified, with competencies to progress to the 8a level.
- Excellent organisation and communication skills; ability to work with diverse service users and multidisciplinary teams.
Additional Information
- We have excellent links with North West doctoral training programmes and offer placements to trainees from local universities. The post holder would be expected to clinically supervise and manage the workloads of assistant psychologists and trainee clinical psychologists as required.
- The post holder will work alongside the senior Clinical Psychologist and be involved in ongoing service development.
