Job summary

A leading children's hospital in Liverpool is seeking a Highly Specialised Speech & Language Therapist to join the Enhanced Support Team. This role involves providing high-quality assessments and multidisciplinary support to children and young people with complex needs. Liverpool Enhanced Support Team (EST) and Youth Justice CAMHS are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our service. The role is part funded by Liverpool Youth Justice Service.

The Enhanced Support Team works with children and young people with complex needs who present with high risk, high harm behaviours and high vulnerability. They are likely to have difficulties in multiple domains which are persistent, severe and are framed by family and social contexts. This may include children and young people who are involved in youth justice services, not in education employment or training, who engage in substance misuse, have multiple adverse childhood experiences, who are neurodiverse or have speech language and communication difficulties etc. These children and young people are likely to have been referred to multiple services, but there are significant barriers to engagement.

Liverpool Enhanced Support Team has links into Community CAMHS however is integrated with Childrens Services including Social Care and Youth Justice.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide high quality speech, language and communication assessments to inform the multidisciplinary assessment
  • To work with other professionals to plan and deliver multidisciplinary assessments to support speech, language and communication needs.
  • To participate in multidisciplinary formulation meetings
  • To support the consultation and triage of new referrals into the service
  • To support service development of assessment process and practice
  • To provide advice and signposting to parents and professional at any stage of the assessment process
  • To be available for advice, support and teaching of other therapists and external servies

This will be paid in two parts, £250 in first month pay on commencement in post, and £750 on completion of six months.

Accommodation

Alder Hey will support the cost of accommodation for up to 3 months from the date of employment (up to £500 per month)

The cost is to be paid by the staff member and reclaimed as expenses.

Education and Training
  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent
  • Health Care Professional Council - Licence to Practice
  • Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Networks
  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses up to Master's degree equivalent.
Experience
  • Relevant experience at undergraduate/post graduate level
  • Substantial relevant experience post qualification, including demonstrable experience working as a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist.
  • In-depth experience within specialist area
Knowledge
  • Demonstrates ability to be a good team member and develop leadership responsibilities.
  • Well established knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools relevant to the specialist client group.
  • In depth knowledge of national policies and procedures (relevant to the specialist client group).
  • In depth knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions (relevant to the client group) and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits.
  • In depth knowledge of the principles of clinical governance/audit
