Higher Scientist, Molecular assays and immunochemistry
Location: South Mimms, Hertfordshire, UK. Full‑time, permanent, lab based. Only personnel based in the UK can apply.
The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) regulates medicines and medical devices, ensuring safety and effectiveness through science and research. The Science, Research and Innovation Group delivers public health impact and world‑leading research innovation.
The post-holder will support the planning and management of day‑to‑day resource to meet key performance indicators. Working primarily in the Immunochemistry assays team, you will develop and perform analytical techniques such as ELISA and immunodiffusion, while also adapting to work across other test areas such as separation science, cell‑based assays, molecular and biochemical assays.
Accountable to the Immunochemistry Team Lead, ensuring timely delivery of testing of biological medicines compliant with ISO17025 and other quality standards.
Contribute to analytical tests with expertise in specific assays, analysing data, identifying issues and supporting resolution, and providing advice to colleagues across the Agency.
Engage with national and international stakeholders, including WHO, EDQM, and academic institutes, to deliver expert services and training.
Manage day‑to‑day delivery of strategic objectives, drive process improvement, and champion cross‑training opportunities to build resilience.
Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience. Familiarity with immunoassays (ELISA, immunodiffusion) and broad laboratory experience (HPLC, cell‑based assays, molecular or biochemical techniques) is desirable.
Experience of method development and validation, including statistical analysis and data presentation.
Proven ability to work accurately and precisely within an ISO17025 (or similar) quality system, and experience with a Laboratory Information Management System.
Strong communication, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills.
Analytical and problem‑solving capability, with a proactive approach to identifying and evaluating solutions.
