Job summary

A recruitment agency is seeking an experienced HGV Mechanic to join a well-established commercial vehicle workshop in Bury St Edmunds. The role involves carrying out maintenance, repairs, and overhauls on a range of HGVs, as well as completing routine diagnostics and fault-finding. Candidates should have NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair and prior experience in a dealership or fleet workshop. The position offers an hourly rate between £18.00-£22.00 with overtime rates available.

Qualifications

  • Strong diagnostic skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced workshop.

Location: Bury St Edmunds

Hourly rate: £18.00-£22.00 + Overtime paid at £27.00-£33.00

Hours: 8am to 4pm week 1 & 4pm to 12am week 2

Days: Monday to Friday

Overview

We are recruiting an experienced HGV Mechanic to join a busy, well-established commercial vehicle workshop. Due to ongoing growth and new contract wins, our client is expanding their team and looking for a skilled technician to support their service and repair operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out maintenance, repairs and overhauls on a range of HGVs and trailers
  • Complete routine servicing, diagnostics and fault-finding
  • Follow the full repair process from initial inspection to job completion
  • Conduct routine checks, safety inspections and pre-MOT preparation
  • Work to high standards to ensure vehicles are safe, roadworthy and compliant
Requirements
  • Previous experience within an HGV dealership or fleet workshop
  • NVQ / City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
  • Strong diagnostic skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced workshop
