Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen on C18B for an HCA full or part time. As an HCA you will be expected to assist in maintaining the highest possible standard of care under the supervision of a Registered nurse. To maintain a tidy and welcoming environment for patients and relatives. The staff will be involved with many members of the MDT. The ward is a busy, modern unit with a professional but friendly team delivering high standards of care. We are looking for a highly enthusiastic, motivated and committed support worker to deliver high quality holistic nursing care to patients and to join our forward thinking and ever developing team. You should have good communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to work effectively as part of the team and deal with complex sensitive information in a professional manner.

Responsibilities

• Providing a range of personalised care for patients under the guidance and supervision of a registered nurse, including assisting patients with personal hygiene, toileting, use of continence aids, catheter care, measuring patient output, supporting nutritional and hydration needs, moving and handling, use of mobility appliances, correct patient positioning, ensuring patient safety, taking specimens and observing patients for changes in condition.
• Undertaking a range of non-clinical activities to support the productive operation of the ward environment and maintain a safe and clean environment.

Requirements / Qualifications

• Ability to understand and comply with procedures
• Clear communication with effective listening skills; extensive experience in a caring role (usually 12 months), or Step Into ELHT (via bank initially) or Level 2 Health and Social Care qualification and completion of First Steps programme
• Basic computer skills
• Basic numeracy and literacy skills
• Willing to undertake further training

• Successful completion of the Care Certificate
• Successful completion of Higher HCA role; friendly and caring manner; ability to act sympathetically and sensitively with people

Based on C18b Royal Blackburn Hospital initially, with the Vascular service moving to Royal Preston Hospital in the near future; therefore this post will move with the service. Salary details: the advertised salary for full-time hours; if less than 37.5 hours per week, the salary will be pro-rata. For posts on Agenda for Change pay-scales, new entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point of the relevant band.
