Job description

We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our friendly and supportive General Practice team, the role is 25 - 30 hours per week. As an HCA in a GP setting, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and supporting the clinical team in the day-to-day running of the practice.

Working under the guidance of the nursing team and GPs, you will carry out a range of clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, blood pressure monitoring, ECGs, health checks, vaccinations (if trained), and assisting with chronic disease management. You will also contribute to the overall patient experience by providing reassurance, health promotion advice, and practical support throughout their visit.

This role is ideal for someone with previous HCA experience preferably in primary care, who is enthusiastic, organised, and committed to making a difference in the lives of patients.

We are a busy, friendly practice in South Manchester and the successful candidate should be patient and team focused.

Main duties of the job

To support the practice nursing and administrative teams in the delivery of clinical and administrative services, working as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.

The Healthcare Assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education whilst also supporting the administrative team on an as-required basis. They will work alongside our existing nursing team which is presently two nurses and another HCA.

To support our growing services, we are looking to recruit a dedicated HCA to join our experienced clinical team, as well as five partners we have 5 salaried GPs, one paramedic, two nurses, one HCA as well as a large and supportive, reception, admin and secretarial team.

Job responsibilities
  • Undertake new patient health checks
  • Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately
  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
  • Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
  • Carry out BMI checks as directed
  • Act as a chaperone as required
  • Undertake venepuncture
  • When trained, administer flu vaccinations
  • When trained, administer other vaccinations
  • Carry out ECGs as requested
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
  • Provide support during coil / minor operations as required
  • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session and sufficient stock is ordered for the practice.
  • Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
Qualifications
  • Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level
  • Previous completion of the HCA Care Certificate
