Overview

We are currently looking to fill one Head driver position. The post holder works in Health Courier Services (HCS) Operations and supports the co-ordinated delivery of HCS and Supply Chain (SC) services and ensures they take place as per contractual agreements. They liaise closely with the HCS Controller/Scheduler and external contacts and/or Clinical departments at hospitals, GP surgeries, clinics, day centres, nursing homes and the Blood Banks. In addition, the post holder supports the efficient operation of the HCS, SC and Laundry day to day operations and links with Day Control services and is the first operational point of contact for enquiries relating to Logistics transport for area. Close liaison with all parties is paramount to provide transport of the highest calibre.

Main duties of the job

The Health Courier Service provides the transportation of non-patient items including pathology, medical equipment, medical records, blood and associated blood products etc. This is an exciting opportunity to join a committed developing team.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full Driving License
  • 5 GCSEs grade C or above to include English language and maths, or equivalent, on appointment

Desirable

  • C1 (Driver CPC) Licence holder and LGV 2 may be required where necessary
  • Basic First Aid including Emergency Resuscitation Techniques
Experience

Essential

  • Driving a range of vans/light commercial vehicles
  • Dealing with customers and liaison with internal and external NHS contacts, patients and public

Desirable

  • NVQ in first line supervision
Knowledge

Essential

  • Sound geographical knowledge of area served and ability to read a map
  • Moving and Handling techniques, and general awareness of risk, health and safety issues and responsibilities

Desirable

  • Sound knowledge of use of a range of vehicles up to and including 7.5 tonnes plus (where required), and relevant equipment, and basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance
