A leading healthcare provider in the UK is seeking a Health Care Assistant to join their team in Cobham. This position involves supporting patients through a variety of clinical tasks, including health checks, wound care, and assisting nurses with chronic disease management. Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, flexibleand well-presented individual, who enjoys being part of a team. You must have amethodical approach to the work, and the ability to deal empathically andprofessionally with our patients. The successful applicant will be receptive tochange, with excellent communication skills, be a team player and have acan-do approach to work.

Previous HCA experience is essential but training in areaswhere it may be required will be provided. The Practice encourages and supportsprofessional development as we are an approved training practice for a varietyof different clinical roles.

Knowledgein using Outlook, Word and Excel are essential. A working knowledge of EMIS &Docman is desirable, however full training would be provided, if required.

Main duties of the job
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
  • Undertake new patient health checks
  • Support the practice nurses with health promotion programmes
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
  • Support the practice nurses with the management of chronic disease clinics
  • Carry out BMI checks as directed
  • Act as a chaperone as required
  • Contribute towards learning disability, NHS health and severe mental illness health checks
  • ECG recording
  • Flu, Pneumococcal vaccinations and B12 injections under a Patient Specific Direction
  • Less complex dressings including removal of staples and sutures
  • Urinalysis
About us

Cobham Health Centre is a well-established GP surgery in Cobham, near to the town centre, with a reputation for excellent patient-centred care. You will work closely and be supported by the Practice's nursing team and work collaboratively with our GPs and other practice staff, to develop and extend the HCA role within the practice and to deliver essential health care to our patients.

Hours of work: 17 hours per week, preferably Mon andTues. Expectation to be flexible and/or additional hours by agreement to coverabsence, annual leave etc, annual flu clinics.

Job responsibilities
  • CLINICAL
  • Undertake new patient health checks
  • Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
  • Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
  • Carry out BMI checks as directed
  • Act as a chaperone as required
  • Contribute towards learning disability, NHS health and severe mental illness health checks
  • ECG recording

  • Simple dressings including removal of staples and sutures
  • Urinalysis
  • Preparation and processing of laboratory samples i.e. MSU, sputum, faeces
  • NON-CLINICAL
  • Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of workspaces
  • To have a thorough knowledge of practice procedures
  • Ordering of clinical supplies and vaccinations to maintain stock levels - Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
  • Carry out regular stock control of medical equipment in consulting and treatment rooms on a weekly basis
  • Contact helplines for technical support for medical equipment when required
  • Assist in annual calibration
  • Maintain accurate and timely records, ensuring the clinical system is kept up to date
  • A duty to advise the Nursing Team of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks
  • Attend and participate in any practice meetings and training when required
  • Responsible for own time management
  • To assist in seasonal and special projects as requested e.g. Flu campaign
  • To undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as required by the Partners, Nursing Team or the Practice Management.
