Health and Safety Advisor
Location: Wigan
Salary: £35k - £40k
Job Description
A local, specialist manufacturing company who has been going since the early 1940s is now looking to recruit a Health and Safety Advisor to join their team.
Main Duties
- Ensure that the company is compliant legally on all issues and H&S is actively addressed and promoted throughout the Company.
- Ensure staff awareness on H&S matters.
- Act as the Fire Officer, manage practice evacuations, monitor effectiveness, prepare reports and recommendations.
- Ensure all areas are compliant with H&S requirements.
- Ensure all off-site activities operate within policy and comply with H&S requirements.
- Manage the First Aid team and ensure First Aid facilities are maintained.
- Act as the company's H&S Representative and orchestrate and chair H&S meetings.
- Ensure all risk assessments, fire risk assessments and COSHH registers are up to date.
- Ensure compliance with our Environmental policy and implementation plan.
- Ensure regular statutory inspections are undertaken in relation to such areas as Portable Appliance Testing and building electrical certificates.
- Investigate and make recommendations in relation to any accidents.
- Carry out relevant H&S Training for all staff.
- To play a lead role in the emergency planning process and the Disaster Recovery plan and make recommendations in relation to the implementation and any improvements so as to enable the Company to respond effectively.
- Liaise with appropriate outside authorities including Health and Safety Executive Environmental Health Inspectors.
- Ensure internal/external audits are undertaken and compliance is met with our accreditations.
- Implementation of additional accreditations if required.
- Ensure all H&S manuals are kept up to date.
- Undertake such other duties which are deemed commensurate with the post.
Requirements
- Hold a minimum of a NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or Equivalent.
- A member of IOSH or IIRSM.
- Good computer literacy with good computer skills, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
Skills
- Experienced in carrying out risk assessments, manual handling processes, COSHH and DSE assessments.
- Good written and communications skills, together with IT skills.
- Proactive and able to advise on H&S issues with confidence and a solution-based attitude.
- Confident at liaising with staff and managers and communicating information.
