Job summary

A staffing agency is seeking a Health and Safety Officer for a 3-month contract in Canterbury. We are recruiting for a Health and Safety Officer on a 3 month contract for one of our clients based in Canterbury;

About the Role - Transport Required due to rural location

As the Health & Safety Advisor, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the well-being of the workforce and the safe operation of the manufacturing and yard environments. You'll be responsible for assessing risks, developing robust safety practices, and helping embed a culture where safety is a core value.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments across production, yard, transport, and office areas.
  • Develop, update, and implement Health & Safety policies, procedures, and safe systems of work.
  • Provide guidance to managers and staff on compliance with current H&S legislation and best practice.
  • Carry out site inspections, audits, and incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Deliver or coordinate training on relevant safety topics.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety culture and reduce workplace incidents.
  • Maintain accurate H&S records, reports, and documentation.
About You
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or working towards) or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in manufacturing, construction, timber engineering, or a related environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of current UK Health & Safety legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Proactive, organised, and confident in challenging unsafe practices.
  • A hands‑on approach and willingness to spend time on the shop floor.
