Overview

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest and most diverse Trusts in the country, employing over 28,000 staff across a variety of hospital and community sites. An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a Health and Safety Adviser within the Trust’s Health and Safety Team. The successful applicant will work within the Health and Safety Team and broader Risk Management Team to support managers at all levels and across all areas of the organisation in improving health and safety standards.

As a qualified health and safety practitioner, you will be a Graduate or Chartered member of IOSH, and you will have an in-depth working knowledge of current health and safety issues and the underpinning legislation to enable you to provide competent advice.

The role will be predominantly based at Wythenshawe Hospital and Trafford General Hospital with travel to other sites, including Oxford Road Campus. There is a need to travel between sites and access to your own transport is essential.

Responsibilities
  • Work within the Group Health and Safety Team to facilitate improvements in Health and Safety performance at Corporate level and across all Hospitals, Managed Clinical Services and Local Care Organisations.
  • Work with the Group Head of Health and Safety and Senior Health and Safety Advisers to develop, implement and manage the systems and processes for effective health and safety management across the Group, and to provide guidance and support to all Hospitals and Managed Clinical Services.
  • Deputise for the Senior Health and Safety Advisers; provide competent health and safety advice to the Trust.
  • Work across all Hospitals and Managed Clinical Services within the Group to assist the organisation in achieving compliance with its statutory duties under health and safety law and associated legislation.
  • Work proactively across the Group to promote a positive health and safety culture and embed the wider principles of risk management.
  • Work will be guided by professional interpretation of health and safety legislation, approved codes of practice and other formal occupational standards and statutes. Work towards compliance and continuous improvement using professional judgement to determine how this can be best achieved.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Graduate or Chartered member of IOSH with in-depth knowledge of current health and safety issues and underpinning legislation.
  • Proven ability to provide competent health and safety advice and to support managers at all levels.
  • Experience of working across multiple sites within a large organisation and willingness to travel between sites (own transport essential).
