Join Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in leading the financial management of a groundbreaking new joint centre for eye care, research, and education. Moorfields and its partners, including UCL and Moorfields Eye Charity, are operating a £500m project in Camden, and this role covers the entire joint programme’s finance.
Job Overview
This finance lead will act across the joint venture, Moorfields, and UCL, covering day-to-day financial administration, reporting, budgeting, treasury, and regulatory compliance. The role reports to the Chief Financial Officer of Moorfields and the Oriel Finance Lead of UCL, and manages a full-time Band 8A Project Accountant.
Main Duties
- Financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, administration, and controls for the joint venture, Moorfields, and UCL.
- Advising on finance aspects of change control, governance, and cost control.
- Financial reporting and attendance at the Oriel Executive Board, Moorfields management executive, and UCL Oriel Project Board.
- Joint venture cash flow, treasury management, tax advice, and financial reporting.
- Monitoring the business case, approvals from higher bodies, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities – Joint Venture Specific
- Manage cash flows and treasury for the joint venture and its partners.
- Oversee technical accounting, ensuring timely accounts for Moorfields and UCL year-ends.
- Maintain financial systems and controls, ensuring segregation of duties.
- Coordinate tax compliance for Moorfields, UCL, and the joint venture.
- Signatory to the joint venture bank account and provide reports to the Joint Venture Board.
Key Responsibilities – Moorfields & UCL
- Engage with NHS regulators on finances, monthly reporting, and budget approvals.
- Produce CDEL analysis, variance analysis against business case, and support for UCL Estates committee.
- Monitor benefits realisation programme finances.
Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent.
- Fully qualified member of a CCAB body or CIMA, actively undertaking CPD.
Experience
- Experience of presenting financial results to boards and senior staff.
- At least 5 years post‑qualification experience.
- Experience of using the NHS LTFM.
- Experience of developing, delivering, and monitoring business cases and capital projects.
- Capability to maintain financial control while supporting devolved management.
Knowledge
- Advanced MS Excel skills.
- Knowledge of business case development, e.g. five‑case model.
- Knowledge of NHS regulatory environment and compliance processes.
Desirable Criteria
- Technical accounting and taxation knowledge relating to NHS and university settings.
