Overview

Next Generation have been appointed to recruit for a Head of Logistics to work for a well-established manufacturing business who specialise in the manufacture of precision machined components. As the Head of Logistics you will be responsible for leading all logistics and warehouse operations across Warehouse and Manufacturing factory. This includes goods-in, raw material and steel storage, light manufacturing support, inventory management, picking and packing, transportation, and subcontract logistics.

Working hours of the Head of Logistics

Monday to Friday 8am 4.30pm (flexibility around core hours)

Duties of the Head of Logistics
  • Lead end-to-end logistics operations across both sites, ensuring seamless integration between warehouse, factory, and transport activities.
  • Ensure daily operational performance aligns with safety, quality, inventory, delivery and people (SQDIP) targets.
  • Drive service level improvements through robust KPI tracking, performance dashboards, and regular operational reviews.
  • Develop and empower Section Managers and Team Leaders to create a high-performing, engaged workforce.
  • Act as a key escalation point for urgent or expedited orders.
  • Drive compliance with internal quality procedures and play a key role in internal and external audits.
  • Own and manage departmental budgets, including setting annual forecasts, tracking spend, and delivering cost improvements.
  • Lead resource and capacity planning to ensure the logistics operation is right-sized and aligned to business demand.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing accuracy, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Collaborate with the IT team to further develop and embed the Epicor WMS system, including barcode and scanning functionality.
  • Lead the development and deployment of short-interval controls and improved visual performance management.
  • Build strong working relationships with Procurement, Sales, HSE, HR, Planning, Expediting, Quality, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Promote a strong culture of health, safety, and environmental responsibility.
The successful candidate for the Head of Logistics position will have the following experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing logistics or warehouse operations, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated success in leading operational improvements across safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Strong financial awareness with experience setting and managing operational budgets.
  • Proven ability in workforce and capacity planning to meet fluctuating business requirements.
  • Experienced in coaching, mentoring, and developing managers and team leaders.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills at all business levels.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP and WMS platforms; Epicor and/or Fasters knowledge is a strong advantage.
  • Deep understanding of stock management, transport, subcontract operations, and internal manufacturing flows.
  • Familiarity with barcode scanning systems and digital inventory controls.
  • Knowledge of fastener products or industrial components.
