Head of Health & Safety

Location: London (Head Office) Hybrid working 1 day a week from home

Are you an experienced Health & Safety leader looking to make a real impact across a diverse property portfolio?

The Role

As Head of Health & Safety, you will lead the strategic direction of Health & Safety across the entire portfolio, ensuring compliance, driving performance, and fostering a positive, proactive safety culture.

You will act as the principal advisor to the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, shaping safety governance, risk management frameworks, and continuous improvement initiatives across a multi-site environment.

This is a senior role with a strong mix of strategy, hands‑on support, stakeholder influence, and operational oversight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure all business activities comply with UK Health & Safety legislation, ACOPs and best practice.
  • Maintain and develop H&S policies, risk assessments, legal registers, and statutory compliance processes.
  • Advise senior leaders on emerging legislation, risks, and required actions.
  • Oversee fire risk management across the portfolio, ensuring actions are completed in a timely manner.
  • Oversee accident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Manage the Insurance Risk Improvement Register and advise on H&S aspects of minor capex projects.
  • Conduct regular site inspections across the portfolio to monitor operational risks and safe systems of work.
  • Support centre teams in identifying and mitigating customer-related risks.
  • Evaluate contractor and supplier competence, ensuring ongoing suitability.
  • Monitor construction and redevelopment activity to ensure CDM compliance and safe working practices.
  • Support managers in maintaining safe systems of work with expert advice and practical guidance.
About You

You’re a confident, influential safety leader with the ability to work across a multi-site environment and engage effectively with senior executives, operational teams and property managers.

Essential
  • NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health & Safety
  • Strong knowledge of UK H&S legislation, building & workplace regulations
  • Excellent communicator, able to influence and challenge where needed
  • IT literate with strong reporting and analytical skills
  • Broad experience in Health & Safety management across multiple sites
  • Hands‑on, proactive approach with the ability to work autonomously
  • Previous experience in real estate, FM, property management or similar environments

Agency notes

This is a full‑time permanent role, working 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday and the role is available to start as soon as possible upon appointment. The client has not notified us of any specific Health & Safety risks. The notice period is 1 week during probation, rising to 1 month thereafter and is paid on a monthly, salaried basis. Salary offered will be dependent on experience. The role is based out of the central London office, with travel across the London portfolio.
