Overview

The Head of Health & Safety, Legal & Compliance Services, Permanent - Full Time, £51,753 - 56,535 per annum. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to provide strategic leadership and expert guidance on health and safety matters across the University. Utilizing recognised health and safety quality frameworks, the Head of Health and Safety will monitor and coordinate the management of an effective and compliant health and safety function within the University. This role, based within Legal & Compliance Services, focuses on ensuring the University’s compliance with health and safety legislation while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The role will review and develop appropriate strategies, policies, procedures and staff training and development, ensuring a progressive health and safety culture is promoted and maintained.

The post requires excellent relationship building and communication skills to engage positively with staff, students, contractors and visitors. You will also be able to communicate clearly with colleagues. Attention to detail and meticulous record keeping are important.

Responsibilities
  • Provide effective leadership and management of the Department of Health and Safety and its team.
  • Provide proactive health and safety management advice to all Faculties and Departments of the University to ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and best practice guidance from within the profession and industry.
  • This is a strategic post supported by the University Council and Senior Management Team. The role holder will line manage staff within the Health & Safety Department and ensure value for money in all activities in accordance with the University’s financial regulations.
