Job summary

A leading Facilities Service provider is seeking a Head of Compliance for their Education portfolio in East London. You will direct the compliance assurance function, manage a specialist team, and ensure statutory compliance across technical operations. Ideal candidates will have senior level experience in Facilities Management, preferably with a background in Mechanical or Electrical engineering. Overview

We are currently working with a leading UK Facilities Service provider to recruit a Head of Compliance for an Education portfolio in the East London areas. The role will be split between site, office in East London and home working.

The Role

A senior managerial role responsible for directing the FM independent Compliance Assurance function. The Head of Compliance will lead a specialist team dedicated to providing objective verification and audit of all technical and engineering compliance obligations across our building and M&E infrastructure.

You will own and develop the company's statutory compliance assurance framework, ensuring it provides robust governance and oversight. They will lead a team whose primary function is to audit, verify, and report on the compliance status of our operations, providing critical feedback to the business and driving a culture of continuous improvement.

This role requires a blend of strategic leadership and hands‑on technical assurance expertise. In addition to leading the department, you will be directly responsible for managing the compliance assurance activities for a designated key account, acting as the lead Compliance Manager in that capacity.

Working in close partnership with the Hard FM and Lifecycle departments, the role will involve auditing the application of maintenance procedures (HTMs, SFG20, etc.) and validating technical assessments for lifecycle proposals, ensuring a comprehensive assurance wrap across all technical functions.

Candidate requirements
  • Significant experience in a senior Statutory Compliance or Technical Assurance role within Facilities Management, preferably in PFI or other complex, high-risk environments.
  • Preferably from a Mechanical or Electrical engineering background, with a deep and detailed knowledge of M&E systems and associated statutory compliance.
  • Proven experience in leading, managing, and developing a technical or compliance-focused team.
  • Strong understanding of gas safety, EICRs, fire safety regulations, water hygiene (L8), LOLER, PUWER, and other key statutory requirements in the built environment.
