Job description

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Head of Area to work as part of our Operations Team, covering Swindon, Wiltshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, and Berkshire West.

The successful candidate must be able to travel regularly across the region and occasionally nationwide across England.

Join an organisation dedicated to helping those severely impacted by mental illness. We value respect, dignity, and equity, drawing on the diverse experiences of our people to be an inclusive, anti-racist employer, campaigning organisation, and service provider reflecting the communities we serve.

The Services Division leads the delivery and growth of our care, support services, and NHS and Local Authority partnerships, aligned with our strategic goals. This team ensures services meet quality standards, contractual obligations, and deliver positive outcomes, maintaining effective governance and oversight, especially where we lead or deliver partnership work funded by Local Authorities, NHS, and government initiatives.

How you will make a difference

As Head of Area, you will be part of the London and South East Regional Services team. You will engage with NHS Integrated Care Systems (ICSs), Local Authorities, and government strategic programmes, developing partnerships that align with our strategy to build caring communities. You will leverage Rethink Mental Illness’s expertise and reputation to shape care and support services, innovate service delivery through new partnerships, and expand our support to those severely affected by mental illness.

The NHS 10 Year Health Plan for England (2025), titled Fit For The Future, offers new opportunities to influence major initiatives: transitioning care from hospitals to communities, digital technology integration, and prevention focus. These align with our Corporate Strategy and are pursued through our Mission Delivery Boards.

You will work collaboratively with various agencies to ensure coordinated support for individuals with severe mental illness, aiming to improve outcomes in areas such as:

  • Access to health and social care
  • Housing
  • Employment, education, training, and volunteering
  • Physical health
  • Social connectedness
  • Financial wellbeing

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

We value diversity and inclusion, believing they deepen our understanding and improve our services. Our staff networks support us in fostering an inclusive workplace, supporting ethnically diverse and LGBTQIA+ colleagues, and being awarded Disability Confident Employer status. We are committed to reflecting the communities we serve and actively encourage applications from diverse backgrounds, including those with lived experience of mental illness, neurodiversity, disabilities, and from various ethnicities and identities.

Becoming a truly anti-racist organisation

We aspire to be a genuinely anti-racist employer, campaigning organisation, and service provider. Our Race Equality Action Plan and anti-racist statement guide our multi-year efforts to hold ourselves accountable and advance racial equality. Learn more about our progress here.
