Job description

To assist thePractices clinical team by undertaking a range of clinical and administrativesupport functions in delivery of service to patients. HCAs work within theestablished policies, standards and guidelines of the practice at all times,referring back to a registered healthcare professional any patient where an informed clinical judgement is required.

The demands ofthis post require a person who works well under pressure and who isenthusiastic, self-motivated and who can remain calm in sometimes stressfulsituations.

Thepost-holder will be exposed to blood and other bodily fluids and therefore willbe meticulous in adhering to precautions.

Main duties of the job
  • BPs, pulse, temperature, height, weight, BMI, peakflow, blood glucose
  • Urinalysisand preparation of specimens for pathology laboratory
  • Venepuncture
  • ECGs
  • NHSHealth checks incl weight monitoring, long-term condition monitoring, incl diabetic foot checks
  • Influenza,pneumococcal and B12 vaccinations
  • Woundcare and dressings, incl compression
  • Removalof stitches
  • Providelifestyle advice to patients
  • Restockingclinical areas, ordering of clinical supplies and keeping clinical areas clean
  • Recordingdrugs fridge temperatures and cleaning as required
  • Actingas a chaperone for patients as required
  • Admin tasks related to health information and monitoring; ordering and maintaining healthinformation leaflets; issuing invitations and updating patienthealth checks; recording activities using EMIS; adding Read codes accurately
  • Workingwithin established systems of clinical governance, contributing as appropriateto practice audit activity
  • Atall times observing infection control procedures to protect self, patients andcolleagues
  • Assistingin maintaining a safe working environment for self, patients, carers and themulti-disciplinary team, alerting other members of the Practice team to issuesof quality and risk identified in work with patients
  • Appropriatelydealing with clinical waste
  • Conveyingrelevant information, reporting any concerns and receiving feedback from SeniorNurse / GP

We are a Practice of 9000 patients in Bampton, West Oxfordshire. We serve the community of Bampton and surrounding villages. Approx 1/3 of our patients live in the nearby town of Carterton, where we have a branch site to serve the local community.

We are in a beautiful location, nestled between the Cotswolds to the west and Oxford to the east. We serve military families as the RAF Brize Norton is situated between Bampton and Carterton.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Primary Care experience.
  • Ordering and restocking of the treatment room.
  • Moving and handling of patients.
  • Able to conduct NHS Health Checks.
  • Flu vaccination administration to patients.
  • Experience in recording ECG
Qualifications
  • Care Certificate (if applicable)
