A healthcare trust in the UK is seeking a Haematology Trials Fellow to engage in clinical trials and gain valuable experience within a leading department. Candidates must have significant clinical haematology experience and be fully registered with GMC. This role offers no on-call commitments and a flexible schedule, promoting individual research interests. A fixed-term contract for one year is available.
The closing date is 07 December 2025
Clinical haematology at UHB is a large department, delivering comprehensive haematology care to the local population and tertiary services in stem cell transplantation, CAR T‑cell therapy and haemophilia. Services are provided at all four of the Trust’s hospitals, and there are two trials teams, based at the Queen Elizabeth and Heartlands Hospitals, with their own trial portfolios. We seek to appoint up to two doctors to haematology trials fellow roles.
These roles are for doctors with significant specialty experience within clinical haematology. These exciting roles offer the opportunity to gain clinical trial experience and work towards a career as an independent clinical trialist. The posts are based with the Queen Elizabeth trials team. We have a large portfolio of academic and commercial clinical trials across malignant haematology, haemostasis and thrombosis. The post‑holders will work with the trials team in opening trials, screening and consenting participants, the clinical care of patients on studies and completing report forms. Post‑holders will be encouraged to take a proactive role in identifying and driving forward suitable studies, according to their own research interests and the priorities of the department.
This is a fixed‑term post for one year, which would be suitable for specialty trainees as an out‑of‑programme placement (OOPE/OOPR). It is not deanery‑approved as a training post (i.e. not OOPT).
Flexible 40 hr/week schedule. No on‑call commitments. Optionally, it may be possible to take part in out‑of‑hours clinical service provision within the clinical haematology department.
The post‑holders will take on the role of sub‑investigator on a number of haematology and cellular therapy trials. There is the possibility of developing co‑Principal Investigator roles for some trials. Clinical trial duties will include recruiting and consenting patients for trials, assessing eligibility, reviewing patients in clinic, conducting trial procedures including investigations and the administration of intrathecal chemotherapy, and assessments relevant to each trial. Post‑holders will support the identification of suitable trials and trial set‑up, and the wider trials team with data integrity and clinical records. The appointee(s) would be encouraged to develop their own research interests in post.
