Job description
Overview

The gynaecology outpatient centre offers care to patients with complex women's health issues from a wide ranging patient demographic. The department runs clinics covering different gynaecology needs (fertility/general/oncology/urogynaecology, early pregnancy), with over 10 consultants and specialist nurses, requiring an ability to understand the differing clinical needs for each clinic and work to clearly defined policies and procedures.

Post holders will be expected to undertake training to ensure a basic knowledge or level of competence to be able to assist in the various procedures that are carried out within the different gynaecological clinics. They will be expected to provide an effective, safe, evidence based patient care in accordance with "The Code" to women with gynaecological problems in the outpatient setting.

Responsibilities
  • Be a registered nurse capable of assessing, planning and implementing individual patient care; be accountable for their own actions.
  • Demonstrate highly developed communication and negotiation skills with the ability to liaise between primary and secondary care to ensure patients receive continuity in care.
  • Communicate sensitive and complex information to patients and their carers or families.
  • Help optimise patient flow throughout the department and participate in evaluating processes and systems to ensure the smooth running of the gynaecology outpatient centre, assisting doctors and specialist nurses while seeing patients.
  • Take telephone calls and advise patients as needed.
  • Participate in essential audits.
  • Ensure equipment is in full working order and stock is available.
  • Report issues to the senior nurse.
Qualifications

The post holder will be a registered nurse with the expertise and skills to assess, plan and implement individual patient care and be accountable for their own actions.
