Lead strategy development and implementation for environmental matters. Success in this role will mean that you’ve worked cross functionally to embed environmental aspects into our business strategy and plans, ensuring these meet evolving legislative requirements and protect and enhance our leadership position in areas of strategic importance.

This role will focus on both UK-based and Group strategy implementation with a focus on two of our three sustainability pillars: circular economy and climate.

Role overview:

As part of this role, you'll be responsible for:

  • Contribute to the development of and drive implementation of Currys sustainability strategy through sharing insights, thought leadership and developing strategic frameworks.
  • Translate goals into action, working with colleagues and senior leaders across the Group to shape Group and/or UK environmental programmes & initiatives that support our strategic priorities.
  • Identify and monitor environmental impacts, risks and opportunities (including those related to changes in legislation and relevant industry best practice) across the Group’s value chain and ensuring our environmental aspects of our sustainability strategy remain fit for purpose and interconnect well with our Social Impact activities.
  • Work cross functionally to lead the development and communication of climate transition planning, including supplier and customer emissions reductions.
  • Support the Group Sustainability & ESG Director with the monitoring, implementation, and advancement of the circular strategy.
  • Work with teams across the business to maintain a credible environmental narrative supported with data and insights to external stakeholders.
  • Work with the Group Senior Non-Financial Reporting Manager to ensure our compliance with UK and EU environmental reporting requirements, including the provision of timely and auditable environmental data.
  • Drive the advancement of internal capabilities, including through sharing thought leadership, horizon scanning insights and best practice across the Group.
  • Act as a go-to sustainability expert for colleagues and senior leaders across the Group, providing subject matter expertise to ensure alignment with our sustainability and business priorities.
  • Work closely with membership bodies and our corporate affairs and communications colleagues to ensure that Group and UK business information and perspectives are utilised in key events and public policy processes, representing Currys at relevant external opportunities.

  • Problem Solving – Analyse and understand complex data and situations to turn data into insight and recommend the solutions and overcome challenges and/or set-backs.
  • Written and Verbal Communication Skills – strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to tell a complex story in a clear, concise and compelling manner, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams and engage senior leadership.
  • Stakeholder Management – Manage and influence stakeholders at all levels, internally and externally, working cross functionally to develop and implement new programmes, as well as monitoring and driving progress.
  • Results Focused – Delivers work end to end to conclusion in a planned and controlled manner.
  • Project Management - Proven track record in managing multiple priorities and working with multiple stakeholders while consistently meeting deadlines.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in relevant sustainability role(s) in a large, listed and/or global business, demonstrating experience in developing and executing sustainability strategies within a corporate or consultancy setting.
  • Strong knowledge of retail and tech related sustainability topics.
  • Experience of developing & implementing strategic environmental projects in consultancy and/or in-house roles.
