Overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work as a Grants Manager within the Research and Development Department’s Grants Team. This full-time role delivers expert support to investigators from the conception to the completion of research studies, underpinning UHS’s research activities and income generation.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the grants function within R&D, including the grants register, reporting metrics, quality checking and costings.
  • Develop grant costings for research projects and personal awards in accordance with submission deadlines and funders guidelines.
  • Work with clinicians to establish interest and scope for participation in research studies and build local capacity by addressing support needs and barriers to involvement.
  • Provide expert knowledge to investigators and R&D colleagues on funding information, rules and guidelines.
  • Support joint grant applications with University of Southampton investigators and professional support teams.

  • Ability to grasp financial details relating to research projects and early career researchers’ personal development.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Clinical/scientific degree or equivalent demonstrable experience relevant to the role.
  • Experience of carrying out costings for research grants.
  • Experience of research support at an NHS Trust, university or commercial clinical setting.
  • Project/grant management experience.
  • Understanding of current R&D issues in the NHS.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the role.
Desirable
  • Experience of working in a large teaching hospital or university.
  • Experience of using IRAS or NRES databases for R&D applications or delivery of commercial clinical research.
  • Demonstrable ability in using Excel spreadsheets.
  • Significant experience of using systems and processes which support the delivery of high‑quality clinical care in a clinical research environment.
  • Evidence of current and on‑going GCP training.
  • Knowledge of EDGE as a RM&G tool.
