Job description

Introduction

In return we can offer the chance to tackle some of the hardest engineering problems around.

This graduate position sits within our Electronic Design group and is available to start between Summer-Autumn 2025.

Your role

Cambridge Consultants works on a wide range of product and system developments for a broad range of clients. We'll give you the time and support needed to learn how to apply your skills to client projects and create a solid reputation for yourself as a reliable, safe pair of hands for day-to-day electronic design across a mix of project teams.

Projects we are currently working on that you could be involved in:
  • High volume product development of Smart Metering solution for UK energy suppliers
  • Electronics development for optical communications system for an agricultural application
  • High performance custom electronics development for security application
  • Internal project investment in high power electronics
Every project we do is different - we are always innovating rather than iterating, so each new project will be a brand-new challenge. You could be working on an industrial robot on one project, then a smart wearable on the next.

These are some of the projects the team have worked on:
  • Overcoming smart meter challenges for the last 5%
  • Sophisticated emergency ventilator for the UK government
  • Collaborating with Vodafone to support the UN Global Biodiversity Framework
  • World-first NMR chemical analysis for WaveGuide
What we can offer

We will provide you with the opportunity to get hands-on with all aspects of electronics circuit board development, such as:
  • Simulating and producing detailed analogue, digital and mixed signal circuit designs
  • Developing schematics, PCB layouts and BOMs for PCB designs
  • Hands-on testing and debugging in the lab
  • Documenting the design
You may also find opportunities to gain experience in software development (C, C++, Python etc) and FPGA development.

This role provides a valuable opportunity to work alongside and learn from more experienced colleagues in both your own and related fields. You will receive on-going support and training to ensure your career and skills develop in the direction you choose.

What you can bring

We are looking for someone undertaking a relevant electronics degree with a good academic background, and has:
  • The ability to gain UK security clearance
  • Solid understanding of fundamental electronic theory and principles
  • Practical experience through university, work or home projects in at least one of the following areas, and enthusiasm for learning about the others:
- Analogue electronics (general, interfaces, RF, power)

- Digital electronics (Verilog, VHDL, processors, memory, DSP)

- PCB design

We welcome applications from recent graduates with industrial experience, final year students and graduates with relevant academic course or research experience. We are as interested in your skills and ability to learn quickly as we are in your experience.
